Well, we had another snowstorm last night - but it wasn't too bad here. Unfortunately it was pretty bad in eastern and central Michigan. Jim's flight from Pittsburgh to Cleveland was originally on schedule, until President Bush decided to leave Pittsburgh at the same time. So when Jim did finally arrive in Cleveland, his flight to Grand Rapids had already left. He caught a flight to Flint instead, and then drove to Grand Rapids...through a pretty horrible ice storm which, apparently, road services weren't expecting. Roads were really bad until about Ionia. Poor Jim dragged in about 1:30 a.m.
Aidan's fever finally broke about Thursday afternoon, which is when the congestion and coughing really picked up. I took him to the doctor this morning...he has an ear infection. When the doctor said "This is pretty bad, Aidan. Didn't you have any pain in your ear?" His reply was: "No, I didn't really notice." Poor kid, he was so miserable with fever he didn't notice a bad ear infection. He did mention, however, that when the water was running in the tub this morning, it "sounded really weird." Anyway, he is on antibiotics and the doctor has adjusted his old allergy medicine regime for his age and apparent allergies...hopefully this time he will really get better. He missed all but a few hours of school this week...big thanks to Mrs. Schmuker for keeping in touch and keeping us posted on classroom goings-on.
We sure have cabin fever! Despite cold temperatures and snow still on the ground, we picked up dinner this evening from our favorite hot dog place - All American Chili Dogs - and drove to the airport to watch the air traffic. In warmer weather we have a picnic and run around in the grass at the viewing area...this time we stayed in the car to eat! We did crack the sunroof, though. We're looking forward to our warm-weather routines - like hot dogs at the airport on Friday night, ice cream at Ball's Softee Creme, fishing at the park, biking after school...
We're also looking forward to the summer TV season - well, Jim and I are, anyway. Esme faithfully watches Curious George, and would happily camp all day in front of Dora, Diego, and "Ni-Hao, Kai-Lan!", but she only gets the chance to do that when she's too sick to move. Aidan hasn't watched TV since last summer. He did deign to cuddle up with us to watch the Curious George movie, and he's enjoying watching Star Wars Episodes IV-VI for the first time (we're almost done with VI), but that's about the extent of his TV viewing. Right now for us grown-ups the only shows we're DVRing are Torchwood and the PBS Masterpiece Classic series "The Complete Jane Austen" - the latter more to pretend we have some sort of cultural conscience than anything else!
In April "Robin Hood", second series, starts on BBC America, and "Doctor Who", fourth series, starts on SciFi. Then we have to wait for July for "Burn Notice" (2nd season, USA); "Monk" (7th season, USA); and "The Closer" (4th season, TNT).
We're waiting on some movies this year for the first time in a long time, too. In May: "The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian" and "Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull". In November: the new Bond movie and "Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince". And dare we admit to "Star Trek XI" in December?
